The First Three Bars: A Simple Tool for Deep Research

Today I’m sharing a new indicator I built for exactly that purpose. It’s called “3 CSC Bars”, and it does one thing only—but it does it well.

It highlights the first three bars of the RTH session if they’re all bullish or all bearish.

Why does that matter?

Because every trade lives somewhere—and trades on the open, live in the open. Whether you’re a scalper, swing trader, or system builder, most of us have asked the same question: “Are we about to trend today?”

The first few bars often hold the clues. But to study them properly, you need a fast way to spot them across hundreds of charts. That’s what this indicator is for.

What it does:

  • It watches the first 3 bars of the RTH session.
  • If all 3 are bullish or all 3 are bearish, it adds a huge arrow to the chart.
  • That’s it. No signals. No trades. Just clean, visual tagging so you can scan charts and build your own research around it.

It’s open-source 🧪, so if you’re using a different platform, you can copy-paste the code and adapt it.

🔍 How to Use It

The real value of this tool comes from what you do with it. Here are some research angles to consider:

  • Do the bars match the gap?
    • Gap up = 3 bull bars?
    • Gap down = 3 bear bars?
  • What’s the higher time frame saying?
    • Are we trending or ranging on the daily chart?
  • When it fails, how does it fail?
    • Does it reverse sharply?
    • Does it chop sideways?
  • What happens after a clean 3-bar move?
    • Trend continuation?
    • Immediate pullback?
    • Reversal setups?
  • Fade it or follow it?
    • Are there setups where fading the third bar works better?
    • Does the second pullback become tradable?

The point is not to force a strategy—but to open a window into what’s actually happening when the open unfolds cleanly.
